Summer Reading Participation

The Summer Reading program launched last week, and I drew our first winner! We're off to a decent start. I wish more people were participating so far, but any participation is a victory after the year we've just had. 

It has been really fun to see what our students are reading, and how they're using this program to practice their reading skills. It's also been great for me to learn more about things that help kids improve their reading skills. For example, next week our challenge is "Read to a pet or stuffed animal." That may seem like a silly challenge, but reading to a non-judgemental pet or even a stuffed animal can help children build confidence in their reading!

I also spent some time this week with the incoming PTA executive committee and our Fundraising Committee, working on plans for our fundraiser in the fall. It's coming together nicely, which is great, because the school year is going to start before I know it.
