Summer has officially begun! This was the last week of school for us, and I spent a good amount of time launching the summer reading program. It felt good to be doing some of the "normal" PTA things that we haven't had the opportunity to do this year, like distributing flyers in teacher's boxes. I also spent time yesterday making sure our returning online students got a reading log and bookmark (since they missed the bookmarks when we sent them home with everyone else in February.)
While launching the summer reading program has been a big focus for the last four weeks, now that summer is here, there's a little less to do- I'll post a weekly challenge, and weekly winners... and I'm still trying to collect titles from teacher's for one of the challenges later in the summer. With things temporarily slowing down for summer reading, I'm getting the chance to start all of the other projects I've been meaning to tackle for the last four years of serving on PTA.
One of the major things I did when I became a trainer at Cyprus was creating a standard for training new employees. It was a huge project, and one that I still can barely believe I was tasked with for a whole company when I was just 24. That experience will certainly help with my next project though, because it's time to create some standards and procedures for our little PTA. I started this week to create a procedure book for our new Fundraising Chair, since that was my job the last time we had a fundraiser. It's been a while, due to Covid, but going through my binder and getting it ready to pass along has reminded me of how important it is to have procedure guides. If I have learned anything this past year, it's how to be flexible- sometimes you have to adjust your procedures and plans and do something new- but it's hard to do even that, if you don't know what's been done before.
The other thing I'm working on this week is getting weekly challenge posts ready and scheduling posts so that even if we get busy with family summer fun, I'll be able to stay on top of the workload!
Here's one of the posts I created for next week's challenge, Read in a tent or fort:
